The biodynamic Domaine

Our Domaine is an 19-hectare vine Estate located on the Côte de Nuits and spilt into 23 appellations of Grands Crus, Premiers Crus, Villages and AOC Régionales.

  • 1946

    Michel Magnien represents the fourth generation of wine growers of the Magnien family. From a very young age, he worked on the vineyard of his father, Bernard Magnien (third generation) owner of 4 hectares of vines.

  • 1967

    From 1967 til 1991, Michel Magnien and his wife Dominique acquired many parcels of vines that they cultivate, care for, harvest and vinify with passion. Their vineyard mosaic grows over the years with differents plots such as CLOS DE LA ROCHE Grand Cru, CLOS SAINT-DENIS Grand Cru, MOREY-SAINT-DENIS 1er cru Les Millandes, GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 1er cru Les Cazetiers,. ..

  • 1988

    Michel Magnien takes over the vines of his father from a vineyard rental system and keep going to deliver the harvest of Bernard Magnien to the cooperative of Morey-Saint-Denis.

  • 1993

    Frédéric Magnien, Michel's son, joins the family estate and encouraged his father to put all their harvests in bottles.

  • 1996

    At every stage, all our work has been guided by the synodic revolution of the Moon.
    From sowing to pruning, from bottling to caring for the vines, we draw inspiration from the lunar cycles to support the plant in its natural development. This connection to the cosmic calendar allows us to enhance the balance of the soil, the vitality of the grapes, and the pure expression of the terroir. Thus, each vintage is born under a celestial influence, in harmony with the forces of nature.

  • 1998

    Domaine Michel Magnien creates a label representing the first letters of the three partners in this Domaine: Dominique, Michel and Frédéric. It will be amended in 2007 and again in 2015.

  • 2008

    Since 2008, the Domaine has adapted a completely organic viticulture and respected the certification process controlled by Ecocert in order to produce authentic wines and preserve the environment for our children's future. Respecting the diversity of our terroir and respecting for the environment is a daily priority for us.

  • 2015

    After years of application, Domaine Michel Magnien is certified in biodynamic by Demeter. At each stage, our work follows the rhythm of the synodic cycle of the moon. We are fully committed to organic agricultural principles in our management of vines and wines.
    Thanks to Michel Magnien's special care for his vines over the years, the wines are unique and faithful to the best terroirs in Burgundy. Our Estate is now managed by Frédéric, the fifth generation, who strives to raise our wines at the highest level of quality.
